Blog 2nd post
I have learned a lot in this class , I have learned about different assessment strategies and how to apply these in lesson planning. By taking these strategies into consideration when planning, it becomes a backward design strategy. A teacher can prevent confusion in learning and communicating by preparing ahead of time. Different types of assessment and where and why to use them in a classroom. Assessment as learning, Assessment for learning and Assessment of learning . Assessment practices that will encourage students learnings are assessment for learning and as learning. these assessments are used by the teacher to evaluate student's learnings and scaffold their next steps to learning journey. I have learned about how to use pedagogical assessment as a learning strategy and how to incorporate the documentation for student's portfolios. The last most traditional assessment is assessment of learning. This type of assessment is used marking and grading purposes and just informs the teacher where the student is standing at the end of term or unit despite assessment for learning and as learning which happens during and even before the term and units. Therefore assessment is an ongoing strategy, used for learning purposes.
I'm planning to use pedagogical assessment in my classroom. I have seen different methods of pedagogical assessment in my practicum but after taking this course I have learned different use of these methods and how to apply them as strategies for learning. Before entering teachers' college I always considered assessment as a finish line, where i would just look for results and end my teaching. Although now I have a better understanding of what assessment is and how an educator can use that not just an evaluation tool but as teaching strategies and developmental feedbacks. I will definitely implant self and peer assessment in my classroom. This is an learning tool for student's to help them set goals. Self and peer assessment are important aspects of ‘assessment for learning’ practice. Assessing their own work or their peers' can help students to develop their understanding of the Intended Learning Outcomes and the Assessment Criteria. children tend to learn better and faster when they are actively involved. Success criteria and learning goals are my favourite new teaching tools that I have learned and observed about how to implant them in my teaching. They help students recognize if they have been successful in their learning. The most significant benefits of success criteria are that they can help to cultivate independent learners, provide effective feedback and create confident students who contribute to activities. This course taught me where to look for information and how to use the information when i'm preparing lesson plans. Now I know that when i'm planning to make a lesson plan, my first step is to check the curriculum and the growing success document to know what and why i'm teaching that lesson, and how to teach the lesson to involve and engage students.
